DVR Preinstallation Check list

Cables

The DVR will require 4 Video BNC cables in addition to the ones that connect the cameras to the multiplexer. These cables are as follows

1.      Cable from “monitor out port” of the multiplexer to mux port of the DVR

2.      Cable from “monitor out port” of the DVR to the main monitor

3.      Cable from “vcr in of the mux” to vcr out of the DVR

4.      Cable from “vcr out of the mux” to vcr in of the DVR

Note: this setup differs from some conventional time lapse vcr setups as the monitor out signal from the mux has to loop through the DVR before it goes to the display monitor

Ethernet

The DVR will also require a CAT5 network cable to be dropped where the DVR will be located if remote view is going to be needed. This cable must run from the DVR to the central network location of the building(IE where the network hub, switch, router are located)

The DVR will require an IP address to allow remote function. You should ask to speak with their network or computer maintenance person to determine a useable address.

Broadband

The DVR requires a broadband connection at the DVR location. Some examples of this are DSL, T1, Cable Modem.

The DVR does not connect to a phone line

Firewall

Most clients will have firewalls on their internet connection which prevents all outside activity from entering the network. This prevents people from remotely accessing their DVR system. These Firewalls are usually password protected so it is important to obtain the password information prior to install to ensure that access to the firewall will be possible.
